News: Specialized App Developed at Purdue…

Hey everybody, happy Sunday!!  It’s been a busy week so blogging today is ideal.  Today’s entry is in the realms of Resource/Accommodation.  This particular application will help families who have someone on the Autism Spectrum better communicate.  The application is known as SpeakAll.  SpeakAll is a tablet application which, aids in language development for children and families affected by autism spectrum disorders.

 

SpeakAll  application was created by SPEAK MODalities a company co-founded by Dr.  Oliver Wendt and Diana Hancock.  Dr.  Wendt is a  Professor of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, and Special Education, director of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) research lab at Purdue.  Ms.  Hancock is the commercialization director of Information Technology at Purdue.  Speak MODalities  addressing the constantly growing need for speech and language intervention in autism spectrum disorders. 

 

SpeakAll will be pre-installed on the Sonzia Touch Easel.  According, to the Purdue Exponent Mihai Dinulescu, co-founder of 

Sonzia  said, “The Touch Easel is a very versatile learning platform that can be used for a variety of educational, clinical and leisure purposes.”  Dinulescu, also said that there is a lot of software out that was created to aid in helping people with disabilities they just lack proper hardware.  He says, that the one large touch screen can better help people with vision and physical disabilities.

 

The Sonzia Touch Easel with SpeakAll  app is available for purchase for $4,000.00.  Dinulescu says, the touch easel is one of the most durable and inexpensive on the market.
