Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers around the world today. It is your day, and we honor you. It takes a lot to be a father and sometimes we do forget that. We praise our mothers and women that take on both roles and raise children that aren’t theirs, and granted they deserve it (my Mother was everything as well) but there are men out in the world that do the same thing.
Many of us don’t celebrate today because we never knew our fathers, they walked out, our parents got divorced, or they just all around weren’t good examples. I was one of those people I never knew my dad, and from what I was told he didn’t have any intention of getting to know me. He left a little bit after I was born. There’s always the typical story “he was young, he wasn’t ready…he’s not sure who he is.” I heard it all growing up. Still couldn’t figure out though why I wasn’t enough for him to at least want to try. I wrote letters all the time hoping and praying for responses…got nothing. I was hurt! And being disabled only made things worse because I struggled with wanting to be accepted, thinking I’m not good enough, and thinking everybody that walked in would eventually walk out 50 times worse. It took writing poetry, songs and lots of praying for me to get through it.
The saying, “it takes a village to raise a child” is beyond true. I may not have gotten the chance to know my father but I got grandfathers, brothers, uncles, cousins, friends and my Lord and savior. They all have shown me right from wrong, as well as what I do and don’t want in my life. I thank them for being in my life and showing me what men and Fathers are. Happy Father’s Day!!
