Pro Choice or Pro Life: Abortion in Alabama

Hey everybody, today’s blog is going to be a little different because I’ll be talking about laws and politics. Now, before I continue, please remember that these are my thoughts and opinions.  My personal beliefs do not hinder my rationality.   Nothing more, or nothing less.  A few weeks ago the State of Alabama’s governor Kay Ivey passed an abortion ban that will most likely go down in history. The bill will make abortion and attempted abortion felony offenses. Except in cases where abortion is necessary.  Not including rape or incest.

Let’s take a look at what exactly abortion is. An abortion is the ending of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus before it can survive outside the uterus. It’s caused a lot of controversies. People have many reasons why they are for, or against this procedure, but it should still be a woman’s choice. You would think that governor Kay Ivey and the woman that propose the bill would understand. They’re women as well. We can’t decide what’s right and wrong when it comes to another individual’s body. We don’t know what situations they could be in. But it’s okay to deny them their right?

My mother was a teen mom, risked her life to have me. She had me one month shy of her 18th birthday despite thinking about and several people telling her to abort her pregnancy. Because a child would mess up her life. I was a super-premie; she was told that I wouldn’t make it past my first birthday. If I did, I wouldn’t have a quality of life. She had no help and then later found out I was born with a chronic illness. She never gave up on me, I was a choice! For that, I’m forever grateful.

In many cases being a parent of a child and your current situation isn’t the best whether it be you being homeless, prostituting, on drugs, unemployed, financially unstable, pursuing a career, or you’re just not ready for some abortion is the first thought. It’s normal. A lot of factors play a part in the decision to go through with keeping a child, abortion or even adoption. Especially in cases where you have a young girl/woman who has been molested/raped or been apart of incest. The decision should be left up to the parents of the unborn child or single mom and only them. Not the state. A woman’s body is just that hers, and she doesn’t need anyone to regulate what she can and can’t do with it. She’s the one that has to bring life in this world or not.  It’s her choice!
